Lymphedema Causes
There can be primary and secondary causes.
Primary Lymphedema Causes
- Congential causes lymph nodes to form abnormally in infancy
- Praecox mostly occurs around puberty or during pregnancy
- Tarda occurs rarely
Secondary Lymphedema Causes
- Removal of or injury to lymph nodes and lymph vessels
- Radiation treatment for cancer
- Cancer cells can block lymphatic vessels
- Infection of the lymph nodes
